Electronic Stability Control
A computerized system that improves vehicle stability by detecting and reducing loss of traction.
ESC (also called ESP, DSC, VSC) uses sensors to compare the driver's steering input with the car's actual direction. If the car is sliding, ESC applies individual brakes and reduces engine power to bring it back in line. ESC has been mandatory in new vehicles since 2012 in the US and has dramatically reduced single-vehicle crashes.
