Torque
A rotational force measured in Newton-meters (Nm) or pound-feet (lb-ft).
Torque is the twisting force that accelerates the car. While horsepower represents power (work over time), torque represents instantaneous force. Diesel engines and electric motors produce high torque at low RPM, providing strong acceleration from standstill. High-revving gasoline engines may have less peak torque but deliver it over a broader RPM range.
