MacPherson Strut

A common front suspension design that combines a shock absorber, coil spring, and steering pivot into one unit.

The MacPherson strut is space-efficient and cost-effective, making it popular for production vehicles. However, it compromises camber gain during cornering—as the suspension compresses, the wheel tilts outward, reducing the contact patch. For this reason, performance vehicles often use double wishbone or multi-link designs that maintain better tire contact.
