Oversteer

A handling condition where the rear tires lose grip, causing the rear of the car to swing outward.

Oversteer occurs when the rear tires exceed their grip limit before the fronts. The car rotates more than intended, potentially leading to a spin. Rear-wheel drive cars are more prone to power oversteer, especially mid-engine designs with rear weight bias. Controlled oversteer is 'drifting'—a skilled technique, but dangerous for untrained drivers.
