Understeer

A handling condition where the car turns less than the steering input commands, pushing toward the outside of the corner.

Understeer occurs when the front tires lose grip before the rears, causing the car to 'push' or 'plow' wide. It's the default handling characteristic designed into most road cars for safety—when drivers panic and release the throttle, understeer naturally slows the car. Correcting understeer involves reducing speed, decreasing steering angle, or adding front grip.
